Before you book: a checklist for UK patients

  1. Speak to your own dentist first. They know your history and will need to know your plans in case of later complications — this is the General Dental Council’s first piece of advice.
  2. Ask who will carry out the treatment, what their qualifications are and which professional body regulates them. The GDC regulates dental professionals in the UK only; it cannot guarantee that standards abroad are the same.
  3. Ask whether the work is guaranteed, for how long, and who pays for extra flights, hotel and remedial work if something needs putting right.
  4. Get the plan, the price and the warranty in writing, and do not feel you have to commit on the day.
  5. Plan how you will get aftercare once you are home — see our guide to dental aftercare when you return to the UK.
