How to Choose a Dental Clinic in Turkey: 12 Questions to Ask

A good clinic will answer all of these clearly and put the answers in writing. If one avoids a question, treat that as information. The questions follow the advice of the UK General Dental Council on going abroad for dental treatment.

The dentist

1. Who exactly will treat me, and what are their qualifications? Ask for the dentist's name, not just the clinic's.
2. Which professional body are they registered with? In Turkey this is normally the Turkish Dental Association. Ask to see the registration.
3. How much experience do they have with my procedure? Ask to see comparable cases of their own.

The plan and the price

4. Can I have the plan and price in writing after an examination and scan? A price without an examination is a guess.
5. What exactly is included, and what would cost extra? Scans, extractions, grafting, temporary teeth, the final restoration, follow-up visits.
6. Which materials and, for implants, which system and brand? Get the names in writing.
7. How many trips will I need, and on what dates?

Safety and hygiene

8. How are sterilisation and hygiene handled, and what licences does the clinic hold?
9. Why do I need each treatment you are recommending? Be wary of large amounts of work on healthy teeth without a clear reason.

Aftercare and problems

10. Is the work guaranteed, and for how long? What must I do to keep the warranty valid?
11. If I need corrective work, who pays — including flights and hotel? Is further treatment included in the initial cost?
12. How do I reach you after I go home, and will you send my records to my UK dentist?

Red flags

Pressure to decide or pay a deposit on the day, no examination before a quote, reluctance to name the dentist, no written plan, and vague answers about warranty or aftercare. Do not feel you have to commit on the day.
