What a Hollywood smile actually is

The term describes a cosmetic makeover of the visible upper teeth, and often the lower ones too, most often with porcelain or zirconia veneers or crowns. Clinics quote it as a package, so two "Hollywood smile" prices can describe very different amounts of work: 6–8 teeth is a partial makeover, and 16–20 is a full one.

People who want to change the shape, size, colour and alignment of most of their visible teeth at once. It is a cosmetic decision that usually involves preparing many healthy teeth, so it deserves more caution than fixing one or two — including asking whether whitening, orthodontics or fewer veneers would achieve what you want.

How the treatment works

• Design. A consultation, photographs or scans and ideally a digital or physical mock-up of the planned result that you approve before any tooth is touched.
• Preparation. Each tooth is prepared and temporary restorations are fitted.
• Fitting. The finished restorations are checked, adjusted and bonded or cemented.

Trips and timeline

Often a single stay of roughly one to two weeks for a full set, because the laboratory work takes time. Ask for the schedule in writing, and whether adjustments are possible if the temporaries or the finished set are not right.

Risks and limits

• Permanent tooth reduction. Preparing many teeth for porcelain restorations removes enamel that cannot be replaced. Ask how much will be removed.
• Sensitivity, chipping, debonding and the need to replace restorations in future.
• Bite and gum problems if the planning is poor, and the difficulty of fixing another dentist's work.
